MANILA, Philippines — The news of a local airline beginning to allow pet owners to bring their small dogs on select local flights has some Filipinos already planning to take their fur babies to the country’s beautiful beaches.
Philippine Airlines recently launched its FurPAL service, allowing small dogs to fly with their owners inside the cabin. The service will begin on December 1 on flights for Manila to and from Boracay, Panglao and Siargao, with an expansion to cats and other destinations in the future.
In response to the fur-friendly news, a couple of bag brands have released their own line of pet carriers approved by airlines to be carry-on luggage.
Pet protection brand Tavo unveiled its new airline-compliant pet carry-on and impact-tested Dupree pet car seats, designed to improve the safety of pets and passengers, whether in a car or on a commercial aircraft.
The Dupree has all-around mesh ventilation panels for airflow, rollable and attachable doors with magnetic holders, and a structured base.
Premium features include flame-resistant fabrics with maximum sun protection, two machine-washable mattress pads, a wipeable inner tray, and premium vegan leather accents.
Other details are a flexible frame, zippered pockets, trolly sleeves, a luggage tag, a tracking device holder, and carrier leash, leash storage bag and high-strength alloy interior leash attachments.
Meanwhile, Heys Philippines, the local arm of the Canada-based luggage brand, unveiled its Pawssenger Pet Carriers as part of its newest collection, which executives shared were approved by Philippine Airlines itself for the FurPAL service.
The Pawssenger carriers are made of moisture-resistant and durable polyurethane-coated ripstop polyester, a removable leakproof base for easy cleaning and a three-way mesh entry for ventilation and easy access.
Other key features are a built-in safety leash, multiple storage pockets, a poop bag dispenser, a trolley sleeve and a soft velvet pad with a removable and washable cover.
Also in Heys’ new collection are its Hilite bags made from 100% pure polycarbonate, the Xero Elite 2.0 made from ultra-lightweight recycled PET material, the Renew collection with lightweight and durable shells made from 100% recycled plastic bottles and the Ecotex packing cube sets made from reclaimed fishing nets.
